{Major Mondays: Gerontology}

What is Gerontology? Gerontology is the study of old age and the process of aging physically, mentally and socially. The opportunities for careers are growing rapidly in the field of gerontology as the Baby Boomer generation reaches retirement age. UNI offers a major and minor in Gerontology with your choice of either long-term care or social sciences emphases and you would take most of your classes in Latham Hall.

What do you do with a major in Gerontology? Professionals in this field may work in assisted living communities, counseling services, home health agencies and senior activity centers. The skills you gain in this area may also translate into other areas such as athletic training and financial planning.

What classes would you take? You would take a variety of psychology and family services courses. Some courses include Families and Aging, Psychology of Aging, Family Relationships in Crisis, Social Services for Older Adults and many others!

You can gather more information on their website here!
