Living on Your Own: Laundry Tips

For the first post in our new blog mini-series, Living on Your Own, we are going to discuss some tips for doing laundry. For many first-year students, their freshman year of college is typically the first time they ever have to do laundry on their own. To help you out, let's discuss some tips to help out.

Tip #1: Time of day
If possible, do you laundry at a less busy time of the day or day of the week, such as during the weekdays or late at night. This will guarantee that you will be able to find enough machines necessary to finish your laundry loads. Avoid weekends at all cost!

Tip #2: Check your soap
Make sure that you are using laundry detergent.  Don't use dish washing detergent or other cleaners, they will ruin your clothes. Trust us-it happens! It's best just to do it correct the first time and save yourself the money and time from having to buy a new wardrobe.

Tip #3: Don't go over your metered time
Once you put your clothes in the washer/dryer, be sure to note the time. This will allow you to keep track of how long your laundry has been going and to know when it is done. We all have horror stories about impatient strangers throwing out clean clothes on the ground in order to use our machine, so avoid this issue by keeping track of your time.
